Tierra 47 is a year-round initiative for Mexican harpists focused on building sustainable careers in music — by integrating their expertise with cultural identity and local community involvement.
Tierra 47 encourages and motivates harpists to forge and celebrate their unique identities as musicians. We champion harpists who dare to explore innovative avenues — whether through creative experimentation or by breaking new ground in the music business.
By providing tailored mentorship and performance opportunities, Tierra 47 bridges tradition and modernity, ensuring that the art of the harp not only survives but thrives as a vital force in today’s evolving global music scene.
In partnership with OAcademy and BSR Idiomas, Tierra 47 offers scholarships to Mexican harpists, opening doors to high profile training and education
This project creates harp ensembles for Mexican girls from vulnerable family backgrounds, providing them with creative opportunities and a supportive community.
Tierra 47's tailored mentorship program guides harpists in developing a market-ready product or service for the music industry.
In-person concerts offer harpists a stage to showcase their innovative contributions, directly connecting with audiences. Designing and delivering these performances challenges them to engage clearly and offer a combination of tradition with modernity that leaves attendees eager to return and become a loyal audience.
Together, these project strands create a comprehensive ecosystem that not only nurtures talent but also integrates harpists into the broader, vibrant tapestry of the music industry.
Introduced by Spanish missionaries and colonists during the 16th–17th centuries, European-style harps quickly integrated into New Spain. Over time, indigenous and mestizo communities in regions like Veracruz, Jalisco, Michoacán, Guerrero, Sonora, Nayarit, Tamaulipas, Hidalgo, San Luis Potosí, Querétaro, Puebla, and Chiapas transformed these instruments, blending local traditions and resources to create their own musical forms.
Yet, our innovation comes from a modern twist: we use the classical pedal harp — the very instrument that forms the backbone of today's modern classical sets — to bring a contemporary edge to our music. Our skilled harpists channel the rich local harp culture, adapting the refined sound of the classical pedal harp to create fresh, innovative ‘making music’ proposals. In doing so, we not only preserve deep-rooted traditions but also set the stage for the evolving musical narrative of our time.

"In Mexico, more than 1 million children have lost parental care. Factors such as domestic and gender-based violence, malnutrition, poverty, commercial sexual exploitation, drug trafficking, drug use, and migration, among others, put children and their families in a situation of greater vulnerability."
Tierra 47 addresses these challenges by creating harp ensembles with girls who have experienced different forms of adversity. Through music, these girls can regain and develop skills that allow them to grow in a safe environment and acquire competencies such as discipline, teamwork, problem-solving, self-esteem, and a sense of belonging — preparing them for a fulfilling adult life.
Each of our Tierra 47 harpists meets weekly with one or more girls who want to be part of the Enarpa program, to play the harp and make music together.
• At monthly check-in meetings, our harpists share progress, get support, and learn useful tools to help them in their work.
• When a group is ready, with appropriate permissions, the harpist can record a casual and informal video of the girls playing, involving the children in the process.
• Tierra 47 collects and edits these videos, and each year on October 11 — UN International Day of the Girl Child — we distribute them on social media to showcase to the world the amazing achievements of girls.

That’s why we created the New Horizons program. Using four simple steps, harpists learn to create a profitable product or service, and take concrete actions to market it, so they can start generating income quickly — and then replicate the model with other ideas!
